Of particular note for Fringe fans of unusual and exotic perfromance, during the festival weekend at the Flood Gallery in the River Arts District

The Gamelatron is the world's first and only fully robotic gamelan orchestra presented by The League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots (LEMUR) and the composer Zemi17: A. Taylor Kuffner.

Modeled after traditional Balinese and Javanese gamelan orchestras, the Gamelatron is an amalgamation of traditional instruments with a suite of percussive sound makers. MIDI sequences control 117 robotic striking mechanisms that produce intricately woven and rhythmic sound. http://gamelatron.com

Classic gamelan music in Indonesia is typically played in temples as a crucial element of a variety of ceremonies. In the Legend of the Gamelatron we are told that long after humans have evolved out of their bodies and left earth, that future being created a robot gamelan to ring the cardinal directions of the universe in honor of their human ancestors. The site of the Gamelatron became a pilgrimage place for beings to reflect upon their path and ascension.

On January 23rd from 12pm - 6pm the Gamelatron will create a temporary temple space for reflection and mediation at Flood with compositions pre-composed by Zemi17: A Taylor Kuffner

Following the installation hours will be a short reception featuring an improvisational concert on the Gamelatron by Zemi17.
